According to who? There are a lot of whackos out there, and we can find several who think anything is unethical for multple reasons.

I'd guess the most common objection to coffee comes from fundamentalist Christians (once these were called Puritans, H. L. Mencken noted that they were people who were constantly concerned that someone, somewhere, might be having a good time).

This objection to coffee has to do with its mild addictive qualities and pleasurable aspects. It might also have something to do with coffee houses being the centers of secular thought in the seventeenth century. Overall, it's the same kind of narrow objection to anything potentially pleasuable that leads to bans on dancing, alcohol (despite Biblical admonitions to indulge yourself in alcohol, both Old and New Testaments), fantasy-role-playing games, etc.

Coffee is not one of the more despised substances--you'll find it at some church dinners--but the admonition is there; I recall seeing Billy Graham in an interview, when asked "do you have any sins" he answered "yes, I drink coffee."

Interestingly, tobacco and caffeine seem to be considered equal in sinfulness (from what I observe), despite that tobacco is more addictive, causes poisoning in several farm workers during each harvest, and conveys almost no health benefits--whereas coffee has been shown to have no health detriments, increases mental function, and may reduce odds of certain cancers.

Drinking coffee is not unethical per se. It's just that the business of producing coffee can be very unfair to small farmers and laborers (who make next to no money). Check out 'Fair Trade Coffee'.

Get on the 'net and search out Fair Trade. You will need to do a bit of reading but you can buy great coffee at only a slightly higher price. You can then have a clear conscience that the growers were given a fair price for their beans and it encourages them.
A clear conscience means that I allow myself an extra cup per day.

Whoever said "drinking coffee is unethical" is probably just pissed off because Starbucks kept getting their Supergrande-no-whip-no-drizzle fo-shizzle-fat-free-dairy-free flavor-free cappa-frappa-slappa-Chino wrong.
This is obviously one of those pathetic souls who sees an actor and instantly calls them by their soap opera CHARCTER'S NAME!

What??????? Says who?

unethical in what way? I LOVE COFFEE!
but some reasons I might think of would be the fair trade (already mentioned). Farmers are being ripped off. If they got paid more it might help thier economy.
another reason might be the "drug" kind of adiction you can get to it. You can actually go thru a caffine withdraw. I guess it can also make a person act out of charactor if they are on a caffeen high.
*shrug*
I guess anything can be "unethical" in some way.
