We got a bottle of a whiskey, not sure how old or if it has a value?!

Question: for a present we got a bottle of Schenley reserve American Whiskey. 86 proof. looked up the website and the only proofs they make anymore is the 80 proof. is there a place that i can find more information on this? the person said it was his grandfathers and that he had it on his shelf for 80 years.

Sometime on the government seal there is a date, Schenley is actually a Canadian whisky, it could be from the 1940 when they exported to the US and it was rebottled for the US market.

The standard of reducing the proof levels is not new, it happened in the 1950's, most is 40% alcohol or 80 proof, on rare occasion you still find products that are premium blends at 100 proof or 50% alcohol, there is the Puerto Rican Rum at 150 proof, it would be interesting to take it to a wine or alcohol auctioneer and get an appraisal, over 50 yrs old and still in the original bottle and sealed can amount to alot.

Not much from what I could find

10-25 dollars

I doubt if it's been on Grandfathers shelf for 80 years. Just drink it and enjoy.
