A drink from the UK?!
Answers: A friend told me that in England, a popular drink is beer (usually a lager) mixed with orange juice. he said it's called a "Shandy". Anyone know about it. I figured I'm game so I tried it. So friggin' good I had about 6. No lie. And I'm not one for flavored beers, like the peach beers and stuff like that. I love the English. I think I'll go have an ol' Shandy.
In the UK a 'shandy' is a beer diluted with up to half lemonade. (Never orange).
It makes a long refreshing (& sweeter) drink in summer with half the alcohol.
However --- what is called lemonade in the UK is not the same as what is called lemonade in the USA, and the beer is not the same.
Lemonade in the UK is a clear sparkling artificially flavoured sweetened drink -- like American 7-Up.
The beer is normally British bitter, a flavoursome brown beer served at cellar temperature, not cold, and with a bitter tang. The sweetness of the lemonade makes the beer more palatable to those who find beer too bitter.
With the popularity of lager in the UK, many have a 'lager shandy', i.e. made with lager, but you'd always need to specify its a lager shandy.
Another popular drink is a 'lager top' -- that is a lager with a splash of lime drink (a sweetened lime flavoured still drink), the addition of which just takes the sharp edge off the lager.
What exactly is your question?
Oh, yes! I had that in England only we used lemonade. Absolutely delicious. (Actually, I used it as an answer about mixing beer just a few minutes ago. Now I really want one, but I don't have any beer home!)
the English don't call lemonade lemonade, they call 7up lemonade.so a English shandy is beer and 7up,never heard of beer and OJ ,and I've severed a billion drinks[lol],but i guess maybe you could drink any combo you wanted.
