It was banned in Chicago in 2006- from restaurants supermarkets or vendors selling it, because people feel it is inhumane to force feed the birds to produce such a fatty liver. California has banned the practice of force feeding the birds. You can buy it in many upscale grocery stores such as Dean and Deluca.

umm dunno

Fine dining restaurants is where you will find foie gras. You can also have a meat market special order it for you.

I've seen it in many supermarkets.

I'm not sure it actually *is* cruel, since geese naturally gorge on food prior to migrating and get enlarged livers when they store the energy to fly thousands of miles; the feeding practice just enhances that.

That said, personally I don't like it anyway.
