Looking to discover my favorite beer... suggestions?!
Answers: i am looking to try new beers that are other people's favorites... there is just one restriction and that is that it can be bought at a safeway or any old liquour store... somewhere inbetween MGD and a double chocolate stout. both of which are at extremes and not what i am looking for. something more along the lines of blue moon. blue moon is currently one of my favorites. i like newcastle as well. willing to try something weird like beer with a hint of peach or something. thanks for your suggestions.
Blue Moon is a good beer and very interesting with an orange slice. Guinness makes a pretty good lager called Harp and I enjoy their extra stout as well. If you are looking for easy to find beers that have interesting flavors then Sam Adams has several seasonal beers that are always a good choice (right now they have a winter sampler with 6 different kinds with things like cream stout, fezziwig, and a cranberry lambic). Also I don't know where you live but I would go to the liquor store and check out some locally brewed stuff. I live in Georgia so I enjoy things lilke Red Brick and Tarrapin but you may not be able to locate those exact beers. I'm like you, always searching for something new so keep trying new things and support your local brewers too.

Well, MISHA I would suggest Heineken or Hornsbys but I bet you prolly had them already. But those two are my favorite beers.

Some of my favs - Boddington's (light, creamy, with big head)
Downtown Brown (nutty, brown ale, thicker than Newcastle)
Full Sail Ale (Good amber ale)
Red Tail Ale (another good amber)
Most anything by North Coast Brewery (especially Blue Star-unfiltered wheat beer, great with a lemon wedge on a hot summer day, Red Seal Ale- a good amber made with caripils for a nice bite, Old 38 Stout-one of my fav stouts)
Most anything by Anderson Valley Brewery (especially the Belk's ESB- a good bitter ale, their IPA is good, they have a good amber ale too called Boonts amber, and they make my ALL-TIME favorite, Barney Flats- a chocolatey, creamy oatmeal stout. If you are a stout fan, you have to try this beer.)

Try Fat Tire, if they sell it your area. Its brewed in Fort Collins, Colorado. My personal favorite.

I love Heineken, my favorite beer. But I do enjoy mexican beers like Dos Equis, tecate, pacifico, etc.
I love Stella Artois too.
I suggest you go to a place like BJ's where you can get a sampler of beers from the lightest to the darkest. Also, there is a place here called yardhouse, every beer you can imagine. Go out on a limb and try something new.
Anderson Valley Summer Solstice is a fine choice and to parallel that beer I suggest you try New Glarus Spotted Cow, Lagunitas Sirius Ale, or even Pete's Wicked Wanderlust all of which are "Cream Ales." Cream ales are hard to come by though, it's not a very popular beer style and New Glarus beers are nigh impossible to locate outside of Wisconsin but Spotted Cow is bangin'.
Blue Moon is a Coors product and is essentially a slightly domesticated version of a Belgian beer style called a "Witbier." Some more authentic and other tasty examples of the style would be Hoegaarden, Allagash White, Unibroue Blanche De Chambly, and Jolly Pumpkin Calabanza Blanca. Pass on the fruit slice, these beers are amazing without it and certainly don't need it.
Anderson Valley is one of my favorite breweries though and some of my favorites of theirs are the Hop Ottin IPA, Boont ESB, and Poleeko Gold Pale Ale all of which I think would fall within the flavor parameters you've provided. Not as flavorless as a macro lager but not quite as rich as a stout.
In general I think you'd probably be prone to liking mild and refreshing beer styles like witbier, hefeweizen, pale ales, IPAs, golden ales, amber ales, cream ales, and probably full flavored lagers.

Liefsmans Kriek a wheat beer with cherries,
or their
Framboise- made with raspberries -rather sour and wonderfully refreshing in the summer
For wheat beers
Gulpner Kornwolf is a good belgium style wheat beer
and for the somewhat different bavarian style
Schneider Weisse is excellent
Schneider Aventinus (a strong, dark, double bock wheat beer ) is fantastic
if I had to pick favourite British beer/ales
