Hangover 101: wine vs "hard liquor"?!

Question:

Hangover 101: wine vs "hard liquor"?

Does anyone else suffer a 2 day hangover like me with the consumption of 3-4 glasses of wine... but a minimal effect the morning after if I stick with "hard" liquor; ie., no beer or wine?
Whazzup?

Answers:
My wife has the same issues with Wine. We researched and found that the Tannin's and Sulphates can "enhance" the "drunk experience". White Wines have less tannin so ,therefore, don't have as "intense" an effect on the body. Merlot's and Cabernet's are the worst! ('Course my Wifes Fav wine is Merlot!)

She gets "rip-roaring" drunk on Merlot/Cabernet Wine. And not as "rip-roaring" on anything else,(IE: Hard liqueur & Beer). Seems that some people are more susceptable to the "tannin's".

Interesting that she isn't the only one!

Hmmm... strange. I barely ever have hangovers.

Its because of the way wine is made ------
Fermentation.

Hard liquor such as scotch will never give you a hangover

Wine gives me the worst hangovers, even when I do all that I can to prevent them. Liquor makes me hungover as well, but if I drink mucho amounts of water at night, it usually helps in the morning.

A key player in the wine hangover is the amount of sugar in it. The sugar reaks havoc on your stomach and the sulfites cause the headache. To prevent or lessen the severity of a hangover, be sure to drink at least one bottle of water before you go to bed. It makes all the difference in the world to rehydrate, since 75% of a hangover is dehydration.

Don't believe what someone says about hard liquor not giving a hangover, it will if you drink enough of it. I had a 2 day getting sick hangover from vodka one time. I drink bourbon now, and if I drink too much (I won't drink as much as I did before with the vodka), I will have a headache the next day. No experience with wine, don't like it, but I've heard it is worse because of the tannins or something like that.

U may be allergic to wine. I'm allergic to white wine, it only takes one glass of wine and I'm not only drunk, but I'm sick for 2 or 3 days after. I can drink red wine with no adverse affects..... well, that's not entirely true..... but that's another story. I can drink beer and spirits with no problems. Anyway, sounds like u'll have to avoid wine, my friend. I'm sorry.

I dont get hangovers

You could be getting "sick" from the sulfites in the wine.
Remember - if you drink allot of anything (booze) you need to drink as much water too.
