What exactly does a barback do?!

Question:

What exactly does a barback do?

Answers:
being the assistant to the bartender, a barback does anything the bartender does not want to do. Mostly this involves washing glassware, restocking ice and beverages and maybe, just maybe, getting laid by the really drunk chick the bartender doesn't want to mess with that night.

Doesn't get laid...

it should be called bar b!tch. YOu do all the hard work like filling ice, stocking beer and other bottles, emptying garbage's and glass bins, running dishes, making sure garnishes are full (lemons, limes, cherries etc.) And so on, you don't get tips like they do, they're supposed to tip you out but it doesn't add up to the hard work your doing. I'm a server at a restaurant that does not have barbacks, there for we are stuck doing our serving job on top of helping the bar tenders!~

It's just another level of employment created by management to save some money and train bartenders wannabe's. Well, basically....
In busy bars, management would not want the trained and skilled bartenders to have to deal with petty things like, stocking glasswares, putting ice in the well and carrying away rubbish and empty bottles etc. plus restocking of liquor and whatever. They want the bartenders to focus on pouring as fast as the orders comes in.
While it is neither glammous nor pays well, it is an entrance to the world of bartending as most houses that employs bar backs are likely to promote from within instead of hiring and training new bartenders in case of vacancies.

Fill Ice Stock beer, throw out garbage. Basically anything that the bartender does not want to do.
