I think the yeast smells like fresh bread baking and it smells good. That's the only way that I can explain it and I've never smelled it in alcohol. I think that's what you're getting at. Coz I hate the smell of beer.

really disgusting... its hard to describe, just cook some bread and see if thats the same smell.
You may have some damp in your house, that smells very musty or potatoes have gone rotten.
Look under the cupboards in the kitchen.
Check the wall for damp
Check you haven't had a cloth gone musty
Check for water dripping onto wood.
