Best low price tequila?!

Question: I am having some friends from Mexico over for New Years.

I am wondering what is the best tequila that is say under $30 or so for a bottle?

I like Patron, Don Julio etc. but I need to get a lot of it this time and so my budget won't allow it.

What do they drink in Mexico as an "ever day" tequila?

There are a number of good tequilas for under 30 bucks.

To get the correct tequila experience, don't drink anything that doesn't say 100% agave (like junk like regular Cuervo or Sauza). These are cheap poorly made tequilas designed to sell to college kids to get drunk. They are only 51% real tequila, and the rest are fillers like corn syrup and grain alcohol (and thus the hangover the next day is born).

The aging has a lot to do with the taste, so try a few to see which style you like best, and then remember how the aging is labeled:

Blanco (because it's totally clear) - no aging
Reposado - minimally aged at least 2 months, but can be up to 1 year
Anejo - heavily aged, minimally 1 year but less than 3 years.

Some really expensive ones can even be aged longer than that, but you'll want to work your way up to those.

In the under $30 range, for a 750ml bottle, ones I would recommend are:

Cazadores reposado
Correlejo reposado
XXX Reposado (from the Casa Noble family)
Milagro reposado

and many others

thers a new one out just cant think of the name sory

our tequila is not the same as the mexican tequila...it will taste different...as a tequila drinker, don't by cheap tequila..it is horrid...get a smaller bottle of the good stuff

just get jose cuervo. anything cheaper than that would be terrible. I have never had any of those fancy tequilas.

Prissy is totally right! Just for giggles - get a small bottle of
Jose Cuervo Gold from "North of the border" then get the
same size (close to) bottle from Mexico. Pour the same amount of eahc into two identical glasses. Compare them.
Even the color will be different.

If your friends are coming from Mex., have them bring it with them. If not - don't bother with Tequila. Sevre some other drink instead.

If there's a Trader Joe's near you, they have one thats only 10 dollars a bottle. I forget the name, but its actually not that bad (better than that Sauza crap). They also sell Cazadores Reposado, the "one with the deer on the bottle."

tequila rose is the shi* 19.99

The Sauza Gold Tequila isn't bad. It is about 15 a fifth, and is good as a shooter or mixed.

Our tequila isn't the same so you are going to be out of luck there. A quality mid priced tequila is Jose Curevo 1600 (spelling?), if you want to go cheap you can buy El Toro. Heck go with the cheaper tequila and stock up on the Corona and limes! Cause most people need a chaser if they are doing shots!

So if I was in Mexico, would you want me to buy you a cheap bottle of say "Jim Beam"?. Unless you know that they drink tequila, why bother. Not all Mexicans drink Tequila, and especially on a daily basis. If your budget is under $30, get some Casadores. It's really smooth with not much after taste like nasty Jose Cuervo.

Some alcohol I don't believe there is a big difference, but in tequila there is. Jose Cuervo Gold is the lowest I would go. It is really good, but anything less than that you can tell a big difference.

Pepe Lopez is like 8 bucks for a 1/5
