It depends what you want.
Taste-personally, Red Bull
Caffeine- Rockstar has the most caffeine.
Colors-I personally like Monster's tabs. I collect the Lime Green ones.

MONSTER

red bull hands down!
it tastes the best
and its the helthiest, it gives you the most energy without being unhealthy, other energy drinks can give you heart palpitations if you drink to much!

Clear water. Anything that provides quick energy will also give you a quick downfall, which is bad. You need lasting strength, which comes from digesting your food slowly, which comes from eating fruit and vegetables, not drinking juice and sugary drinks laced with addictive drugs such as caffeine. Eating protein, whole grains, etc. and raw vegetables gives you lasting energy. And water to drink. So if an energy drink is really necessary for sports or work , a protein drink with as little as possible sugar in it would be the best, I would say. Or one of the green food drinks.

Water - the energy drinks like red bull & jolt only give people energy due to the amount of caffeine that's in them (at least 60 mg per 8 oz. can) and that's a lot of caffeine for anyone to be drinking.

If you just want short to medium term energy, a fruit smoothie. The natural carbs and sugars are what your body evolved to use as energy.

Ahead of competitions, I drink a quart of water a full hour ahead of time, while eating an old school Power Bar.

Supposedly caffeine can provide some performance enhancement in some sports, but in most cases I suspect that any benefit is erased by the dehydration it causes. (I drink coffee every morning, but I avoid it before any serious competitions).

Modern "energy" drinks can give you a shot of energy, but you can get a little too "wired" from high caffeine and your energy may crash afterwards (at which point you're supposed to drink more of course). Over time you can get addicted to the caffeine in them, and get headaches if you don't keep up your caffeine level. Some painkillers have caffeine in them, so taking those makes the headache go away, but feeds the addiction.
