Is it true that everclear is legal only in a few states?!

Question:

Is it true that everclear is legal only in a few states?

i'm from arizona and we can buy it here, but i keep hearing that its not legal in most other states..

Answers:
Michigan outlawed it 20 years ago due to a couple of people who died doing shot contests. Two people in one public contest actually consumed over 20 shots each, one died, the other was in a coma for 3 weeks before coming out of it. So to get it, we just drive to Indiana, where it's still legal.

It is illegal to purchase the 190 proof version in certain states. Due to Everclear's lack of sugar and impurities (congeners), it may make drinkers less vulnerable to hangovers. However, the lack of a strong flavor tends to promote overconsumption. Everclear is usually mixed into an alcoholic beverage, and is highly flammable.

I don't know about "most states", but there are states where it's easy to find a liquor store that sells it, and other states where liquor stores selling it is unheard of.

It is definitely illegal in Virginia.

In Minnesota the 190 proof version is illegal, but you can buy the 150 proof version.

It's legal in CT and MD, but not in MA.
