Is there anything I can do for my friend..??!

Question: She got very drunk at a party last night and I picked her up and let her stay at my house, and now shes really really sick and throwing up everywhere. Her parents aren't home and I don't want to leave her alone, and my parents are out of town for New Years, so they can't help....and I don't drink so I don't really know anything about hangovers....is there anything I can do for her? Or is she just going to have to tough it out?

Wow! What a great friend you are. Seriously. You went and got her, and took her to your house to keep an eye on her. That right there is one of the best things you can do.

You do need to see if she'll drink something like Pedialite, or Gatorade. Both have electrolytes she needs right now. They'll also be a bit easier on her stomach than water.

At this point, she's going to pretty much have to tough it out. Her head will hurt, and she'll hear the spiders stomping across the ceiling, but with a little rest and some food when she's ready, she'll come out okay.

I'm guessing that you're both under-aged? Usually when someone is under 21, they'll go out and get drunk because it's taboo. And guess what.... she's paying the price for it now.

Stay smart, kiddo. Don't drink until you're of legal age, or unless your parents actually allow you to have the alcohol. Moderation is always the key. A little won't harm you.... a lot will make you sicker than a dog.

..... If you are really in fear for her safety, take her to a hospital.

One major concern is dehydration. Her body is naturally purging itself of toxins... this is good. Along the way however it is losing fluids and nutrients.

Something like Pedialyte is helpful. This is the fluid that they give babies with diarrhea. It restore fluids and nutrients. It comes in liquid form as well as freezer pops. Generally available at any drug store in baby section.

Also, make sure that she is sleeping on her side. If she throws up while sleeping on her back, she could suffocate on her own vomit!

Oh... and don't be so quick to assign negative votes!!

Sleep more - if she can - and she needs to rehydrate with water, as long as she can keep it down. If she can eat something, just fix her toast, or crackers, to get something in her system but won't make her sick again. Oh - and a couple of advil is a great idea - NO tylenol after drinking! Best wishes and Happy New Year - you're a good friend!

It depends on how much she weighs and how much she drank. Throwing up is actually helpful and she may not need to go to a clinic etc.. Find an adult you can talk to before you go to a hospital. Your friend could also get into legal trouble if she is under age and the people that served her could face criminal charges etc.. this is very serious.

I suggest just staying with her. She'll eventually stop throwing up, but the key is to make sure she doesnt throw up while she's asleep as she could choke and die. Try and get her to drink as much water as possible because I can tell you she's severely dehydrated. She'll be fine she needs to get the alcohol out of her system. If she's still throwing up more than 12 hours after she stopped drinking I suggest you take her to the hospital, but more than likely she'll be fine. Good Luck and I commend you for being such a good friend and staying with her.

If she stays conscience, she is just gonna have to tough it out.

Water when possible, and food if she can hold it down.

If it gets worse, take her to the ER
