Is chardonnay the strongest wine there is?!

Question:

Is chardonnay the strongest wine there is?

Answers:
No, a Chardonnay is traditionally a table wine and would not go any higher than 14% alcohol.

Fortified wines such as Sherry and Port commonly go up to 22%

No, most wine has the same alcohol content, mead, an old honey wine is usually the strongest we drink now..
By strong I assume you mean alcohol content, and not flavor..cause it is one of the milder wines out there

No. Port wines or other fortified wines are much stronger, or higher in alcohol. But chances are a Chardonnay drinker won't like those.

If you mean by alcohol percentage the strongest wines are Port, Sherry, and Marsala which go up to 18% because they have sugar added to them during the process. "Normal" wine naturally fermented can go only as far as 13.5-14%. Chardonay is probably around 11-13%.

Typically white wines have a lower alcohol content than reds, there are many exceptions. Alcohol content of wines range from 6%-16%. Red wines tend to be more full-bodied (more alcohol) because the are more complex and usually are able to withstand higher amounts of alcohol.

It is true that fortified wines (ports, sherries, and marsalas) and certain dessert wines (like ice wine) tend to have the highest amount of alcohol ranging from 16%-20%.

Chardonnay tend to be between 12%-14% so the are not weak by any means.

No... Port

To clarify one of planetma...'s statements: he must be American; the term "table wine" referring to alcohol content is an Americanism. In most of the world the term used to refer to just ordinary wine or even plonk until about 25 years ago when frustrated Italian producers who wanted to experiment with grapes not authorized for D.O.C. or D.O.C.G. appellations introduced outstanding (and expensive) table wines (vini de tavola) and winemakers in parts of France followed suit.

Port is stronger, But if you want white Thunderbird it's really a bum's wine cheap and strong. And the only way I know about it . I worked in a liquor store for years
