How many drinks before your liver gets really bad?!
How many drinks before your liver gets really bad?
lol I told my mom I was drinking vodka and she's very concerned about "how much".So I want to know how many drinks can you have before your liver gets bad or really bad?
Answers:
My grandpa put down about a bottle a day and lived to be 84 with no liver problems. If you are young, I would worry more about how you act when drinking a lot of vodka. I am not against it...in fact, I drink vodka pretty much every weekend. I'm sure your liver has a much greater chance of going bad if you drink, whatever the drink may be. Don't live life worrying about these things...have fun. Just don't get behind the wheel after a long night of drinking. If I had to put a number on "how much"...I would say try to keep it under 100,000 for a lifetime.
yea, it takes years and years, its not like i'll have 5 to many drinks one night and wake up with a bad liver
How long is a piece of string? Some people can drink for years and have no ill effects, others can become ill over night. It is actually possible to drink a large amount - like a bottle of vodka, and go to bed and simply die, either by choking on vomit or by simply stopping breathing - alcohol can do that. If you drink enough, it can tell the brain to shut down.
Also how much you can drink depends on your height and weight - either way, women cant absorb as much alcohol as men and cope with it in the same way. Also if you carry on heavy drinking you are putting yourself at risk of diseases - not just liver disease, the obvious one - but mouth and stomach cancer, not to mention fertility problems which could arise, because prolonged heavy drinking can cause irreparable damage to the ovaries. You might not be thinking about kids now, but in the future you may want them badly and then find that you cant. When I was a teenager I had my first drink and I thought happiness came in a bottle. I thought it didnt matter that I was drinking, because I could always stop, couldnt I? Well actually I was a full blown alcoholic by the age of 29 and it wasnt until I stopped drinking two years ago that I actually realised I was close to killing myself. I now have a daughter.
Im not preaching to you, Im just trying to share what I know first hand so please dont be angry with your mother for being so concerned. Shes just looking out for you. No one can honestly say that drinking will not harm you for many years. Just because you are young it doesnt mean you are fireproof. Please remember you can harm your liver in ten years time. Twenty years time. Or you could wake up tomorrow morning and its done already.
I suggest you sit down with your mum and discuss what she considers a safe limit for you to drink. And stick with it. No one wants to spoil your fun and your laughs with your friends but alcohol at the end of the day is a poison.
Do take care of yourself.
It's how much and HOW LONG. A few drinks a few times a week is probably fine.
I will let you know mine is close to being bad
