How long will port keep once it is opened?!

Question: I was given a nice bottle of 1984 port at Christmas and I'd like to have a glass, but want to know how long the liquid will keep before i have to finish it.

A week or two at least. The high alcohol content keeps bugs away, but it will begin to oxidize and loose fruity flavors.

The process of making it Port sort of freezes it in time.
Because of the alcohol and sugar content I think it is good for a long time once opened.
In the bottle it is good for decades.

Fortified wines are good for several weeks after opening. Far longer than is takes to finish at a drink or two after dinner one or two nights a week. Cheers.
