Goldschlager - what is so great about gold leaf in your drink? And is it good/harmful for your body?!

Question: I only recently heard about this and it sounds strange to me.

Answers: I only recently heard about this and it sounds strange to me.

Goldschlager is an originally german drink. Gold...meaning um...."gold" and schlager meaning "hitter." The same word is used for golf club/ tennis racket.....literally translater they are "teniis hitter."

Thus goldshlager is "Gold hitter." This came about because the was a time when the gold was actually large enough and in sufficient quantity to make tiny incisions in the gums of the person drinking it. This meant the alcohol reached the brain of the person drinking it mere seconds after - giving the "hit."

I personally haven't found that the goldschlager I've had has been particularly lethal and would tend to agree with others....its just for show thesedays. Gold is an extremely unreactive metal...hence its use in jewellery and some surgical implements. It is entirely safe to have it in your body.

Drink in moderation.

If you've not yet tried it, save your drinking money for something more worthy. It tastes TERRIBLE!!

At any rate, the whole idea is for it to look cool. It won't hurt you to consume it; it passes harmlessly through your digestive tract.

Gold is inert in the body. It's just a flashy drink and costs a small fortune to have. Sort of like drinking Cristal champagne when Dom Perignon is just as good and costs a tenth as much.

It tastes nasty, don't bother. Gold is precious partly because it is very unreactive. This would be the same inside the body. The leaves are very small and soft too.

If you drink a lot you get sparkly poop :)

I don't hink its bad for you, but alcohol isn't really isn't good for you anyway. This burns very badly when t goes down your throat. Tried it once- never evr again... People think it looks cool and that it is a cool looking party drink- NOT.

The reason for the small shards of gold in the drink, is to cause microscopic tears in the lining of the stomach. This is so that the alcohol will be absorbed into the stomach more quickly. In other words, you get drunk quicker. It does taste like crap though. Kind of like really thick cough medicine. I wouldn't recommend it.

The gold is a gimmick for the product, I like it only if it is mixed. Try Dr Pepper and goldschlager or Jagermeister and Goldschlager, do some shots of this and you will be numb fast
