What's Your Favorite German Wheat Beer?!

Question: I think my favorite so far would have to be Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier. It's made at the oldest brewery in the world (http://www.weihenstephaner.de).

I would love to hear your favorites though - and why it is your favorite.

I can't get enough Ayinger Brau Weisse and Schneider Weisse, they're both darn tasty.

Weihenstephaner original is pretty much bench mark hefeweizen though.

Franziskaner Weissbier

Erdinger - does that qualify ?
Very crisp, tasty.

Well, let's see. It is important to bear in mind that there are two kinds of wheat beer: unfiltered (best known) and filtered, know in German as Kristallweizen. As far as the unfiltered light wheat beer is concerned, the most popular choices like Franziskaner, Erdinger or Paulaner. All can be purchased at Beverages & More at around $2.49/0.5 ltr, and all are pretty much the same quality and taste. Less known are regional microbrewery varieties that are not that easy to find in the US, but they do come in millions of flavor variations. Then, there is dark wheat bear (Dunkelweizen); the best known is Erdinger.

Last but not least, the Kristallweizen varieties. This is a much lighter and crispier beer, and it does not leave you with the feeling of being full to the top after just a bottle. You can find a very good Paulaner Kristallweizen at Bevmo. My favorite wheat beer is the Loewenbrau Kristallweizen from Munich, but I have never seen it in the US.
