Does drinking alcohol make you hiccup? If so, why?!

Question: It does me about 50% of the time. I don't even have to be drunk. I'll be on my second glass of wine and suddenly I'm having these horrible hiccups that are so bad they hurt.

btw-I don't drink much (anymore) and I'm rarely ever what you'd consider drunk.

I have a friend that hiccups when he gets to laughing and drinking. They seem to come from nowhere. I just tell him to calm himself down.

Never gives me the hiccups.

no, not me. Laughing a lot does it to me with or without alcohol. Are you a very happy, laughing drinker?

it doesnt give hiccups

i don't drink so i don't know

Its a nervious disorder with widly debated causes and cures. It could be that you are drinking too fast, or dancing around while drinking. The nerves get foweled up in your brain to your belly. Sip slower, and dont sip when you are dancing. Dont fight a hiccup. Let it come out easily. you try and bear down, or start laughing, it will only hurt more. Sit and be calm.
