Why would it be bad to use hot coals from my fireplace to light my hookah?!

Question: Last night my friends and i hookah-ed but we ran out of the coals that were purchased at a tobacco shop made for hookahs. So i shoveled out a red hot coal from the fireplace and put it on topof the hookah. It worked just great, but I have heard that for whatever reason you're not supposed to do this. Let me know what you know!

Depends on the 'coal' you used. If you are using bituminous coal that's not good. If you are using charcoal made from wood that would be ok. Only problem I can see here, depending on how long you were on the hooka, would be dropping the hot coal from the fireplace & setting a fire.

Thank you very much. I took care with your question because a friend of ours did exactly the same thing in 1972 (long time ago) but it was different from Report It

But, ultimately it was too much for his wife & 2 children and they divorced 2 yrs later. Must say, you are rather articulate yourself. Report It

  • I would imagine it would be alright.

Charcoal is charcoal... how do you think they fired their hookahs a thousand years ago? Just so long as it wasn't a huge chunk, you should be fine.
