good question, the same thing here in Asheville NC. That stuff is pure poison and the same people who are careful about what they eat will drink that crap proudly.

Really though, for your money PBR is probably the best beer you can get. Where I'm from it was $13 for a 30 pack of PBR which, as far as bad beer goes, actually has SOME flavor. Not quite as good as Shlitz, Blatz, Grain Belt, Fat Cat, or Yuengling but not disgusting.
I don't know though, kids like that just want to be 'different' while being the same as everybody else. It's nationwide though.
I'll stick to some Alpha King personally.

Its not just a Saint Louis thing, We used to drink it when we was younger cause it was cheaper than water. I like to think these kids think its cool cause they grew up seeing us drink it and they think that they have to so they can be as cool as we were!!
They do charge more for it at the trendy places than they do at the local redneck bar!!
Milwaukee's Best or Natural Lt will do just fine.
