The police raided the pub in an effort to stop 'binge' drinking they were looking for anyone drunk, not drunk and disorderly or incapable just drunk. If the police werent sure if the person was drunk they took them outside and watched them walk a straight line!!!!!
I never use the pub now since the smoking ban they are all dead! OK should we now stop serving booze in pubs??? I read this headline out to my wife, she said "Quite right "!!!!
I'm going to have to slap her!!!!

The police have lost the plot.If it was Steelhouse Lane coppers then nothing surprises me.Spill the beans on the pub...I might know it and i'm curious.I bet it was not a posh pub in a posh area.

That is ridiculous. I enjoy my beer like the next man, that should be a sin. I am not from britain but in the states they like to lure people outside with beer in-hand and arrest them from drinking in public.
I once read somewhere that 'pubs are places designed to sell as much alcohol as possible in the shortest available time, who then turn nasty when they succeed!'
It sounds like your local force is getting carried away and inventing their own laws to 'enforce'.

If you don't use the pub now, what does it matter to you what happens in them?
As you state "JUST READ..." the headline it must mean that the cops are doing a New Year clamp down on drink drivers...?.. surely a good thing?
As long as the pub landlord makes sure the person drinking doesn't have car keys in his possession, AND THE only way FOR HIM TO DO THAT is to ask the person for them and take them from that person and put in safe keeping he's in the clear and can continue increasing his profits...?

hey hey hey, just because your upset doesn't give you any reason to harm someone else, especially your wife.
i don't think pubs are dead, it's a guy's place to hang out with his buddies and watch football (american and otherwise globally) on the tv. personally, i think pubs are a great idea for recreation, you get to taste the local food and meet some interesting people.
the smoking ban is debatable. i can understand why, but also NOT why. i mean, for most guys it's commonplace to have a cigar/cigarette with your beer and a good plate of food. but smoking can also cause fire hazards if a lit butt isn't extinguished before someone forgets about it.
however, the people who haven't drunk anything (you can prove that) shouldn't be forced out because everybody is.
i think the police have got the right idea, but they may need to think it out some more.
