depends on what kind of beer. here in new jersey, you can either get a cheap keg (say of natural ice or milwaukee's best) for dirt cheap - say 60 bucks.

but you know what? i'd say spend the extra 20 or so bucks per keg and get kegs of good local brewed stuff. heres its something like yuengling. you owe it to yourself and your guests. spoil yourself a little.
