Is The Famous Grouse really Scotland's favourite whisky and, if so, why?
Recently been to Scotland and saw a campaign that claimed this. Is this indeed the case. What are people's views. Its a drink I have never tried but am keen to know a bit more about it.
Answers:
No, it's just a cheap alright tasting whisky.
For better ones try Isle of Jura, Glenfiddich or bunnabhain

My manager is from Scotland. He's only been here 3 years.
I 'll ask him.
Malts
Ardbeg;
Macullums;
Glennfiddoch;
Highland Park.
Single Malts
12 year old Grouse;
Bushmills (Irish)
Oh the list is endless
Single malts taken with water; though other malts taken on it's own.
Nectar to the Gods
Famous Grouse is an ordinary run of the mill blended whisky fit only to be drunk with ginger ale and water.Malt whisky is different and is made from a single distillation.Please do not drink with water as it will spoil the individual flavour that each Malt has.
My dad is Scottish and he says that Grouse is a good cheaper brand of whiskey but he prefers Glenfiddich or Glenmorangie.
Famous grose achieved this status by sponsoring the Scottish Rugby team as prior to that the number one was Bells.
Grouse is a blended whisky which means various different malt whiskies and grain whiskies of varying precentages go into making it taste the way it does, also adding some caramel for colour always helps.
The reason it does enjoy such popularity is that there is a goos precentage of Speyside malts (Glenfiddich is an example) of different ages are assded, and with the Spey malts using Sherry casks this is what imparts the sweetness.
An excellent and not well known blend is Black Bottle that is the only blend to have some of all the Islay malts in it. it is a gem. Expect to pay about £13 for a 70cl bottle
There is one from Edinburgh called Bailie Nicol Jarvie again slightly higher in cost, about £16 for 70cl but is very well respected indeed.
Single Malt is an entirely different prospect altogether. Just remember there are:
Speyside; Highland; Lowland; Islands; Islay.
In order examples are
Macallan; Dalwhinnie; Auchentoshan; Highland Park; Ardbeg.
enjoy
no its just an ad scam
famous grouse is the best selling whisky in scotland followed by whyte & mackay. they are both superior to bells which is no 1 in england and the foul teachers . personally i think ballantines, johnnie walker, haig and hanky bannister are the best blended scotch. tho as other people have said malts are better.
No, it's just advertiser's imagination running away with them
If you wish to try it then do so.
But make comparisons with other blends also.
There is a whisky club you can join by subscription that introduces you to many rare blends. I don't know the www thing but it should not be too hard to find
Sadly, I am allergic to whisky!!!
