What to do when the wine is not that good, but the waiter says it is good?
Answers:
Speak to the manager, and if he does not give you satisfaction refuse to pay for it, they can not make you eat or drink anything you do not like or care for.
well, I don't like wine at all. Just tell him its not your thing. I dont know if you would get refunded or not- if you bought a bottle for the table, probably not. just get someone else to drink it
Punch that liar in the stomach? haha nah i'm kidding... yeah, yeah that's it kidding...
i will alway send back a wine that i do not enjoy the taste of and any reputable restaurant will get you another of your choosing. i have never had a problem and am never charged for the bad wine. some wines just come out bad. the restaurant knows this and if the waiter gives you a hard time go to the manager. the waiter usually wont though cause they want a good tip.
Tell him and he will bring you another bottle or at least he should. Occasionally wine goes bad in the bottle especially if it hasn't been stored properly.
So you made a bad choice???
What did your date think!!
Do a runner without paying the bill.......
If you ordered a bottle of wine based on your waiters reccomendation and the wine is not bad but not to your liking, tough luck. You should know what you like and don't like. All wines taste different and are very distinctive, what suits ones taste may not suit anothers.
If a particular wine is also served by the glass most restaurants will allow you to taste before you commit to a bottle.
If the wine is indeed bad, as in corked and the flavor has turned of course the bottle should be replaced.
But if you are ordering bottles and rejecting them based on personal taste, it is ludicrous to think a restaurant will just toss a perfectly good bottle of wine.
next time bring your own bottle and pay the corkage fee
What matters is what you think, not what the waiter thinks. If the wine tastes bad then send it back. If the waiter refuses, then call for the manager. Restaurants are supposed to be in the business of serving good food and drink to their customers. If they don't, then don't go back.
If you bought the bottle when the waiter lets you try before serving the table that is your chance to send it back. Don't feel bad about it that is way they let you taste it. Most waiters do not have that much experience with wine unless of course you happen to be dealing with their sommelier in which case you probably stuck with it because they do not usually allow you to return things because of person taste. It is like ordering a bad martini - someone out there likes it just not you.
sunshine got my vote, well said.
What an embarrassing situation that waiter put you in -- I'll bet you never return, so theyhave completely lost a customer for the cost of a glass of wine (because they will sell the rest of the bottle as wine by the glass).
The reason you are poured a taste of wine is for you to approve or reject the wine on quality grounds. What is the point if the restaurant won't let you reject it?
You can legitmately reject the wine if there is some fault, not just because you don't like it (otherwise you could taste your way through their entire list).
So, you think there is something wrong with the wine and you tell the waiter. If he won't change it then you have four options.
1) ask to see the manager
2) Stand up, tell the waiter to cancel the food order and leave
3) Tell the waiter to bring another bottle and with luck that wil be good and get the waiter tocompare the two glasses and agree that the first was bad.
4) Stay, order another bottle, keep the receipt when you go as proof, write to the restauarant head office. If you don't get a refund blog it, write to your local newspaper about it, give them some bad publicity.
Since restaurants charge 300 percent plus the retail cost of the wine (and they're buying wholesale) they can easily afford to take back the wine.
Best of luck
I have had this happen. We ordered a pretty good bottle of wine, but it had an unpleasant bitter taste. Most likely the wine was "corked". We told the waiter that the wine didn't taste right and he asked the manager to verify. He agreed and brought a second bottle, which tasted wonderful. As others have said, sending a bottle back should be reserved for when you really are displeased with it. There are estimates that 2% to 5% of all wine is tainted in some way.
So, what should you do? First make sure it is really corked. Some wines have a pronounced earthiness and aroma, which is normal. Tainted wine, however, can range from an absence of fruit that leaves the wine muted, to undrinkable corked wine that reeks of moldy cardboard. Simply tell the server that you are displeased with the wine and that it may be corked and send it back. A good waiter or wine steward will smell the wine and know that you are right, and then replace the bottle without making you feel foolish.
