What do I need to know about wine?!

Question: What are the basics on wine? What are the best wines? What are the different kinds? I was told by a few of my peers that I need to know wine.

...whatever that means.

The basic is red with strongly flavoured dishes and white with most poultry and seafood. You need to learn to read a wine label first. That always makes people think you know what you're talking about. You'll always have the vineyard, the vintner ( that's the place that fermented the grapes if it's done outside the vineyard) the year, where it's grown and the varietal ( that's the type of grape). Different grapes have different characteristics so a pinot noir and a merlot are very different and a pinot grigio is completely different from the two. My advice have a wine a cheese at home, the best part of learning about wine is tasting!!! There's one brand called Fat Pig, it's a Californian wine, reasonably priced and really delicious.

The easiest way is to find a good reference that makes wine easy to understand.

Luckily for you, I write one. :-)

like trinisug knows. whatever

The best judge of wine is whether or not you enjoy drinking it. A good way to learn more about wines is to go wine tasting at wineries. You get to sample lots of wines and discover which you like and don't like. If there is no wine region nearby, maybe a local wine shop has tastings you could attend.
