I have a question?? about carbon dioxide in wine?!

Question: Wine question!!?
is there another way beside the balloon and lock to keep the carbon dioxide out.
I hear that you can use an hose and put the other side of the hose in a bowl of water.

Yes, a hose with a glass or jar of water is another option, or what most homebrewers use is a fermentation airlock...

I personally use the 3 piece airlocks for all my brewing.

Go to a liquor store and ask the somellier. They should have a hand-held pump that connects to a stopper. It works. Most bars that sell decent wine frequently use them.

yeah...but it's not the co2 you're trying to keep out. You're trying to let the co2 out while not letting anything fro the outside in.

I persoanlly like to use an airlock, but I know of people using wads of cotton over the mouth of the fermenter, a loose cloth, or taking a hose from the fermenter and sticking it in a jar of water...they usually put something like clay of play dough around the hose and the mouth of the fermenter to seal it up.

Airlocks go for about a dollar so it's really not that big a deal to get one and well worth the money IMHO.
