It depends on the state you live in. It should say on the top of the cans the amount and the state to get that amount. ie: Michigan cans are worth $.10 but the same can in Iowa is worth $.05. (same prices for bottles) But all cans in MI are scanned to make sure that they were purchased in MI.
The answer varies greatly based on what your location is.
It depends on where you live and what the rules for hthem are...as far as cans goes, call and check with your scrap metal places and ask if they take aluminum cans...as for the bottles well in some states they have deposits on them anyway and you can take them back to store where purchased...if not well call your local recycling places and see what their rules and guidlines are...the cans here where I live bring anywhere from 45cents to 65cents a pound....
