Preferred scotch?!

Question:

Preferred scotch?

As a graduation gift, to myself, I'm looking to buy a good single malt. Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards Lagavulin 16.

I have had Sheep Dip, Sprey, and Dahlwinie as of late. Dahlwinie is the smoothest.

Lagavulin 16 is fantastic stuff. Good choice. I might suggest Highland Park 18 or The Macallan 25 (this last one is great, but expensive)

The first answer is so stupid and faschist that makes me mad.....
Well, the best Scotch is Glenfidich. No other whisky is so good. A good choice is Johny Walker Blue.
For Lagavulin: is the only whisky that i can NOT drink, the taste is strange and unplesant for me,but a lot people likes it.

I have found a good single malt to be The GlenLivet. Other scotch I have found quite pleasing although not necessarily single malts are Johnny Walker Black and Pinch. As for a nice 8 year old, Cutty Sark does just fine. Congratulations on your graduation and enjoy.

I like Macallan 18, Glenlivit is ok.

Unless you really like scotch and know what you want, I'd stay away from excessively aged scotch...this trend of 25 and 35 yr olds and older is actually a waste. Once it sits in a charred barrel that long, it tastes like a forest fire. 12-18 is just fine.

My tendency is lighter more airy scotch, not so heavy...so for example, I drink scotch with ice and a splash of soda water.

(There's a comedian that likes to say "I like my scotch like I like my women...12 yrs old and mixed up in Coke." I shudder at mixing coke and scotch, but it's a funny line.)

I also agree that the Lagavulin 16 is an excellent whisky, a highly refined and smokey Islay. Other possible choices include the Aberlour A'bunadh a cask strength Speyside sherry-monster and the Bruichladdich 20yo Flirtation 2nd edition (a bit higher in $$ than the Laga but WOW what a whisky!)
