You don't need to keep your humidor at 70% all the time just to keep them soft. Typically anywhere from 60-70% should be fine. You only need to get your humidor to 70%+ to rehydrate cigars that have been sitting out for too long or that are too dry. Typically cigars will rehydrate in 3 days at 70% humidity.

If you do have it at exactly 70%, 24-7, then your cigars should already be soft on the outside and in when you smoke it. You can test it out simply by placing a few dry cigars inside the humidor when it is already at 70%. Once they are in, the humidity should start dropping. Dry cigars are like sponges. After 3 days, once the humidity balances out at around 70% again, then you'll know the cigars are the perfect moisture in and out.
