What does 'barrel selection' means?!

Question:

What does 'barrel selection' means?

I just bought a couple of wines that won gold medal from the 2007 wine competition. and what it says on the label is 'barrel select'. what does this mean?

Answers:
The term 'Barrel Select' has no legal weight or meaning. Anybody can put in on their bottle if they think that it will help sales.

Generally though, 'Barrel Select' is used synonymously with 'Reserve' or other terms indicating higher quality. It is taken to mean that these are some of the better wines of that producer.

I am partially guessing here but here is my opinion. Usually the same wine from different barrels is blended before bottling as different barrels give it a different character. In barrel select the wine from one barrel would be bottled by itself if found to have an exceptional qualities and would be not blended with other barrels.
