no it has no roots or beer in it.... it's weird how they call it root beer... but if you look at a can or a bottle of it, it says the ingredients

No, and if it did what type of plant's roots would it be?

Originally yes it was flavored with Sassafrass root extract.

It was and if you can find the plants you still can..
but there are extracts in the grocers spice section
WHY??
you can get a book
at Story Publishing
http://www.story.com
"Homemade Root Beer Soda & Pop"
I think I got it at Barns & Nobel
and your local Nursery for the plants..
or do some searching at
http://www.thebeveragepeople.com
to get bottling equipment

Most most still use a licorice root and sasparilla root extract, vanilla, corinader seeds, and other base flavours, sassafas is one that was used but it was the leaves not roots, they are trees, you would be cutting down the tree, I like Birch beer, and at one time it was fermented like beer has a low alcohol content, now it is an extract made from the flavours, sugars, caramel colours water and the carbonated, I swaw one the Food Network how some A&W's make there fresh each day from extracts and it is feed through the lines for the fountain service.

In part, at least the original recipe used them.

It was originally made using sassafras/sasparilla roots as well as a few other botanicals. Currently, they still use the oil from this but not necessarily the roots themselves.

No its not made of roots u idiot, everyone know they call it Root Beer because they have a urban Voodoo doctor putting roots and love spells on each and every bottle before they ship them out......duh. Common sense
