They are both liqours, and both have a higher alcohol percentage then beer. They could be considered, "super heavyweight" beers in a sense ;)

they are not beers.

They're not beers.
Bacardi is rum.
Smirnoff is vodka.

coolers like bacardi 'silver' and such are not beers , and they have about the same alchohol content as beer.

they are liquor drinks, and they will give you a killer hangover, stay away, stay far far away

Well, Bacardi and Smirnoff are rum and vodka, but I assume you are talking about Bacardi Silver (I think it's called) and Smirnoff Ice. These are not beer. They are called malt beverages and they are made in a number of ways--I'm not sure exactly how these two are made. Typically they are made by fermenting malts, which are often cheep or sometimes include adjuncts. Many are made with additional flavors. The emphasis is on making something inexpensive that will get you drunk and doesn't taste boozy. Some--not technically malt beverages--are simply made by mixing hard alcohol with fruit flavors and such. Regardless of which method is used these are not beer.

To the poster who said these are in a sense "super heavyweight" beers, I completely disagree with every fiber of my soul. On the contrary, these are targeted at consumers who can't handle the taste of beer. If you want to talk about "super heavyweight" beer, check this out:

It's called Sam Adams Utopias and it's 25.6% alcohol. Now THAT is "super heavyweight" beer (and YES it is beer).

In all seriousness, though, you should check out this article on malt beverages:

you are probably refering to the smirnoff wine cooler things. i don't know if bacardi has anything other than rum, but you may just be thinking about wine coolers, etc. The Smirnoff "beers" would be considered "light weight" or "girly" beers because it tastes more like kool aid than beer, so it's easier for kids and young girls to drink! the alcohol content is about the same however, as in regular domestic beer.

They are "malt beverages" which are flavored beer. Most beer drinkers will call them girlie beer, but whatever. The alchohol content is comparable and if you like the taste better, drink it.

they are not beers, they are spirits..
