The price variant is huge. If your talking single malt then it becomes even bigger.
My advice is for you to do your research on it, prior to purchase.
CWV is right, there are many things to consider. Even Johnnie blue is hundreds of dollars and it is only a blend, albeit a very crafted and aged one. You also have two main types of singles; Islay and Highland. I got a 15 year old single malt for around $50 the other day and a 21 year old single malt for about $95. As far as a 30 year old bottle, I'm not too sure
