Why do bums drink mouthwash instead of mad-dog or t-bird?!

Question: I heard on the radio this morning about all the empty mouth-wash bottles littered around home-less areas. Why would they be drinking mouth-wash when mad-dog, t-bird or even monarch vodka is cheaper?

killls 2 birds with one stone, gets em tipsy, and kills the germs in thier mouth (most of them dont own a toothbrush, let alone have access to toothpaste and a sink)

It can be easier to get and sometimes only 99 cents at 99cent stores. It gets rid of the shakes, but is horrible for your health.

It is all of what is availiable to them

better clean and they dont have alot of money

Because the store brands can be cheaper than even Mad Dog; also because some stores won't sell alcohol to known alcoholics.

That would be if they couldn't get anything else.

A buddy of mine used to work at a drug store during college, and one day the boss happened to be out. The rep for Aqua Velva came in and wanted to know how many bottles they wanted in the next order. He ordered a case of regular tops and a case of shaker tops.

Over the next few weeks the regular tops sold quite well, but nobody was buying the shaker tops. My buddy wondered what was going on, so he pointed out the inventory to his boss.

The boss told him, "...of course the shakers aren't selling, they are too damn hard to drink out of."

True story.

Did anyone ever think that it is illegal to drink in public and they may have something else in the bottle? And/or maybe they think that by putting liqour into a mouthwash bottle others may not try to take it. I bet a bottle of vodka would be gone real quick it it were left unattended by some homeless persons stuff even for a minute. With a mouthwash container...maybe not.
