Madeira wine.?!
Madeira wine.?
I just opend a bottle of Madeira wine that i have had for a number of yrs, problem is there is a dark colloured sediment in the bottle and its a little cloudy. It clears and the sediment falls to the bottom of the glass and it tastes fantastic, but im not sure about drinking it.
I understood Madeira wine got better with age. Will it be ok too drink? I don't know much about wines other than cheap stuff at the supermarket.

Yes it's ok to drink. You should have decanted it before serving, but letting the lees settlle in the glass is ok. They won't hurt you either, but can be a little rough on the palate thus spoiling the wine & wasting your money!
Any unfiltered wine will deposit a sediment (lees) over the years.
With vintage port, the wineprats call it "throwing a crust", just to confuse us oiks I suppose...
As to Madeira, I'm not an expert, but if you don't want it send to me!
Madeira is similar to port and a good well aged one will have sediment in the bottle. What you need to do is decant it. Leave it to settle for a good while then very carefully pour the wine into another receptacle such as a decanter. You can use muslin to filter the wine if necessary as this will not affect the taste. Once opened and decanted the wine will start to deteriorate so don't take too long drinking it! Enjoy
Sounds alright to me. If it was off it would smell and taste vinegary.
Let the sediment settle and the just decant it leaving the sediment in the bottle.
As with all wines that have been aged in bottle - you can expect a sediment. Although harmeless it can be a bit off-putting so decant either into a decanter or jug, straing it through muslin - give the bottle a good clean-out and put the wine back. Personally I do not keep wine once it is opened - I just drink it but a gizmo called 'Vac-u-Vin' maybe just what you need if you intend to drink over several days.
