The Value of Vintage Wine?!

Question: I have came accross a bottle of C. Da Silva Porto, House Reserve, 1944 Port. The bottle is full, and the original seal has not been broken. I have tried to look this wine up, and the only thing I have found is that it is some very fine, and expensive wine. I have not been able to find the value.

Does anyone know the value on this wine?

Thanks in advance...

You will be hard pressed to find wine values online, for several reasons- first, they are fairly subjective and variable- there's not much of one type of vintage wine, so a proper market isn't really established, and different people will assign different valuations to different wines.

Second, much of the research on vine values is proprietary- you may find the info in a book, but not free on the internet. You might try surching for similar bottles for sale, but this is very imporcise- wine-searcher.com has bottles of 1944 Port ranging from 90-1300 dollars (can't tell you exactly, since producers vary, and I don't know whether your bottle is Colheta, Tawny, LBV, Ruby, whatever)

Go visit a proper wine shop. They will have access to pricing information that you don't and will point you in the right direction. Sounds like a decent bottle of port.

EDIT: After further searching, Wijn Antiquariaat in Holland is selling bottles like yours for 325 Euros. This is their retail, not your value, but there's your ballpark.

Your particular wine and vintage is not currenly listed, but for the values on MOST wines go to the wine searcher! This is a comprehensive website for retailers and wholesalers from all over the world and you can find just about anything, except maybe a 1944 vintage Port! But email some of the vendors and they will make you an offer or give you a value
