does alcohol contains gluten?
Answers:
Hi! I hope i can help.
For many years Celiacs' (ppl with Celiac Disease who cannto eat gluten) could have no beer! Nevermore!! There is a new ones called Redbridge. Found in some stores (depends on your area, my state sells liquor in the grocery, not all do.) I know Whole FOods should carry it. There are a few more but sadly I cannot remember their names I do not drink beer.
MOST other liquors are gluten free but NOT ALL! Many liquors that are clear are ok. The hard part is the manufactureres dont have to be as open about their ingredients as food manufacturers!! I have never gotten a real response out of starbucks liquor to this day! :)
The best thing is that if its clear, you can drink it. Most alcohol is distilled so even if it was made from gluten the distillation process makes it gluten free. (I wont try to explain why). BUT many alcohols have additives to give them color such as rum. Now caramel coloring in the US is SUPPOSED to be GF but that may not always be so. Any alcohols made from potatos, corn or rice will be ok. (I like Rain or Chopin vodka). Tequila is usually inherently fine bc its made from agave nectar but they can sometimes add colorings that contian gluten.
The mixins are the harder part. Many of them contain gluten.

I believe beer contains gluten, though there is a gluten free variety available, I'm not sure about other alcohols.
Only beer products contain gluten. There are some beers available that don't. Hard stuff like vodka, gin, tequila and such don't contain gluten.
Just make sure if you drink those, you mix them with gluten free stuff... if you're at a bar, you can easily ask the bartender!
Sake contains no gluten as it is made from rice,so to be sure don't drink any.
Almost all beers contain gluten. The only ones that do not are specially made for those of us who are gluten intollerent.
Most distilled liquors do not contain gluten, but you have to be careful because some types of liquor are flavored by mixing some of the mash back in with the distillate. Jack Daniels and some other whiskeys are made this way. Some rums do add coloring or spices that may contain gluten. However, the higher-end dark rums are dark because a different distillation method is used to produce them than is used to distill the light rums. If you like rum, stay with light rum or a higher-end dark. Skip the spiced rum and lower end darks.
Wines naturally have no gluten. However, I have no idea what is being used to produce the "flavored" wines that are now on the market. Additionally, some people experience celiac-type reactions after drinking wines (my father and I both have celiac disease and have bad reactions after drinking some wines). I have seen no research on this, but it usually only hits us if we drink an American wine that contains chemical preservatives.
