For Bubbly, I would look for Schramsberg Mirabelle. The Rose is awesome, but harder to find than the Brut. It's a US company with US employees, so you'll be supporting the US. http://www.bevmo.com/productinfo.asp?sku... My local Trader Joe's carries the Brut for around $18. It's one of the best values out there - on par with Veuve Cliquot and other famous French Non Vintages.

How much do you want to spend?

Red Wine
-$15: Six Prong Red
$15-$25: Montes Syrah (Wine Spectator top 100 wine)
$25-$50: Archery Summit Pinot Noir Cuvee
Raymond Cabernet
2004 Erath Estate Pinot Noir (Top 100)
any K Syrah

White Wine
-$15 Maryhill Gewurztraminer (sweet but not cloying)
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc (cirtusy and refreshing)
$15-$25
Grgich Hills Fume Blanc
King Estate Pinot Gris (reserve) (clean, light)
$25+
Grgich Hills 30th Anniversary Chardonnay (well balanced, slight oak)
Cakebread Chardonnay
Domaine Drouhin Arthur (vanilla, oak, apple, YUM!)

I tried to make these all US wines, with the exception of Kim Crawford & Montes. : )

It depends on if you like sweet or dry champagne. The best I've had says "spumanti" on the bottle. Multiple companies make champagne with that word on it, and I have never been let down by it. It's a little more expensive though.

If you aren't a regular wine drinker or Champagne drinker, I would recommend you stick with something like Asti Spumante. You will find it in the 'champagne' section. Something like Ballatore would be fine and should be around $6 per bottle. A lot of people like Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante which should run about $12 per bottle.

I wouldn't recommend anything like a red wine or a brut or dry champagne (like Vive Clicquot) because you are not a regular wine drinker or champagne drinker. You would be spending $30-$40 on a bottle of something you will end up hating.

Thanks for letting your husband go to protect all of us and thanks to him for risking his life for us!!!

Champagne: Vive Clicquot - France
Sparkling Wine: Seguda Viudus - Spain

Red Wine: Mouton Cadet Bourdeau - France

These are inexpensive and good- Martini & Rossi champagne $11-13, Ballatore champagne 8-9. If you want to spend a little more- Veuve Clicquot Orange label- my favorite champagne- you can get a half bottle (375ml) for 32-35. I think you should go with champagne over wine- more festive!

If you start drinking wine, start with Pinot Griggio - it's white wine. Very light (I think the lightest on the scale) and very chrisp and somewhat fruity, very affoedable pricewise too (small bottle around $7-8 big $12-13). Keep it in refrigerator and take it out only to serve.
All white wines go wel with chicken and fish also fruits and deserts.
I'm not a red wine lover, for that advice wait for more answers:))
Glad he is back and safe.

I am not a big wine drinker but I do like this one and it is very affordable. I am praying for your husbands safe journey. My son is deploying to Iraq in June. In a couple of years I will be icing down the champagne myself. Best wishes dear.

Red Wine --- $10-15 Merlot
White White ---Kendall Jackson Chardonnay $12-20
All around sweet white --- Gewurztraminer $12-18
Sparkling --- Spumante $7-14

If you don't drink much, stay away from champagne.

I agree w/ the rest of the gang.Cant beat Asti ~ Its prob the best Ive had with out having to pay 100 or more.

It kind of depends on what it is for. If you want to celebrate then a champagne is good, and the local purveyor should be able to point out a good one but I would keep it under $50 to $75. He might have some really good champagne left over from New Years ordering and has a good deal on it. If you are serving it with food I would go with white wine for chicken or fish and red wine for beef Personally I prefer a good Cabernet Sauvignon for red wine and a pinot gregio for white. Santa Margarita makes a fantastic pinot gregio for about $20-$25. Speaking from a man's point of view I prefer red wines and a Cab Sav is great. Again I would ask the purveyor for any really good wines he might have in stock.

PERRIER JOUET is the definition of a romantic champagne. But it is a splurge at approximately $116.00 a bottle. A great wine is Chateau Ste. Michelle from Washington State. Or you could try somthing from Stag's Leap or Clos Du Val from Napa. Buy the kind of wine you like whether red, white or blush.

wine French Cross
champagne Moet Chandon
excellent choices
