What's the policy on mailing alcohol?!

Question: Alcohol is cheaper here than where I'm going, so I was planning on mailing it.

Answers: Alcohol is cheaper here than where I'm going, so I was planning on mailing it.

my aunt sends me liquor from the big island all the time....they dont ask...she buys the liquor wraps it in bubble tape and writes fragile on the box...the post office weighs it she pays for postage..then shes out of there...but she only sends me a few bottles at a month...so it might depend how much you are trying to mail

Don't ask, don't tell. .. ?

you can't

though, if you don't declare you are mailing alcohol, you might get away with it. otherwise, just put it in your suitcase.

check your states own Code Annotated to see about the traffic and distribution of alcohol via the US Mail. It will vary state to state

you can alcohol ship UPS, but you have to have someone over 21 to sign for it.

It is illegal to mail alcohol through the USPS, but you can ship it UPS or FedEx.

edit: As far a limited direct shipping laws (as mentioned below), that has to do with a winery shipping directly to a customer. If you are not a winery, you are just shipping booze to yourself, then you should be fine.

I know that in many states, it is illegal for your average person to mail alcohol. It's illegal through the USPS, period.

UPS, FedEx, and DHL may send it, if it's being shipped from someone who is licensed to ship alcohol. So, a winery, some wine shops, etc.

However, I have known some people who tell UPS that they are shipping "grape Juice", which is true, and it gets them around the UPS policies.

Also, there are laws about who can receive alcohol. Be sure you are clear about that. : )

Rules and restrictions:

Wine sold by winery (or a retailer in your state where necessary)
You must be 21 or older to order
Whoever receives the package must be 21 or older
If you're drunk when the package shows up, you will not be allowed to receive it
Wine cannot be delivered to a P.O. Box
We highly recommend you use a business address as your shipping address
Thanks to stick-in-the-mud buzzkilling state legislators, wine may only be delivered to the following states:

California
Colorado
District Of Columbia
Florida
Idaho
Illinois
Iowa
Louisiana
Michigan
Minnesota
Missouri
Nebraska
Nevada
New Hampshire
New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
North Dakota
Ohio
Oregon
South Carolina
Texas
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
West Virginia
Wisconsin
Wyoming
If your state's not on the list, no wine for you! Get the facts at FreeTheGrapes.org and take it up with your state assemblyperson. Don't worry, we comply with all federal, state, and local laws in providing this wine.

Officially you can't.

I have however spoken to the owner of a UPS store (most are franchises) and she said that if you bring the package in already sealed you aren't required to divulge the content. The only hitch is that if the bottles break... you can't file a claim since you weren't supposed to be shipping them in the first place. I personally have mailed and been mailed alcohol from all over the world.
