Why do you hold your pinkie out when drinking?!

Well, when I asked this question years ago, I was told it originated with tea and demataisse cups - the handles were too small to use all the fingers to hold the handle, and the bottom of the cup was too hot to rest the pinkie on, and it just carried over to other drinks.

Also, tea was previously an aristocrat drink, therefore it might have been a symbol of culture then, but it is now frowned upon in most cultures.

Plus, it was always taught and pointed out in manners - pinkies out.

I don't.

Only when I'm trying to be fancy!

My friends make fun of me when I do this. I don't even notice I'm doing it until someone points it out.

I unintentionally do it at times. No clue why.

I do that too lol. Never could figure out why.
