How does eatting the worm in a tequila bottle affect you?!

Question: There actually isn't a worm in any tequila.

By law in Mexico, it's not allowed.

What you're referring to is Mezcal, an entirely different type of alcohol, which happens to also be distilled from agave cactus like tequila.

The "worm" won't really affect you in the slightest, other than it's kind of gross.

The worm, too, is not really a worm, it's a larva, and usually only put into cheap gimicky bottles of Mezcal so drunk US college kids can claim they "ate the worm".

Personally, I wouldn't touch cheap Mezcal or a worm with a 10' pole!

And you can't really get drunk just from eating the larva; think about it. It's pretty small, and even if it's completely soaked up in alcohol, that's less than a tablespoon of liquor. If you get nasty after-affects from it, it probably has more to do with the fact that you ate a bug.

It doen't affect you. It is just a bit of protien that your body will digest without your even noticing. The reason people drink the worm is for luck. It's tradition.

You might win a t-shirt that says: "I ate the worm". Seriously.

I don't think it really has any physical effect. It's more of a 'rite of passage' thing. I know Monte Alban tequila had a club called "The Golden Worm" club, where if you ate the worm and wrote to them telling them your story, they'd send you a t-shirt.
But by the time you get to the bottom of a fifth of tequila ... well, what's one little worm, right?

idk that it does affect you. i always thought it was there becuase by the time you got to the end of the bottle you're supposed to be so drunk you dont even notice you ate it!

you just went from .01 to .08 bac only side effect is maybe a hangover

Worms are not in tequila, actually, worms only come in some Mezcal spirits

Mezcal are distilled from Agave
Tequila is only made from the BLUE Agave plant
Tequila is a TYPE of mezcal

The worm itself, dense in protein, but not good/bad for anything else

they say in mexico if you eat the worm you see visions. remember the movie urban cowboy when scott glenn ate the worm after downing a bottle of mescal.

My friend and I drank a bottle of "Dos Tiranos" and we both ate one of the worms. It didn't do anything :P

It marks you as a tourist or newcomer to tequila.
