Is the worm in tequila poisonous (sp?) ?!

Question: There actually isn't a worm in any tequila.

By law in Mexico, it's not allowed.

What you're referring to is Mezcal, an entirely different type of alcohol, which happens to also be distilled from agave cactus like tequila.

And no, it's not poisonous.

The worm, too, is not really a worm, it's a larva, and usually only put into cheap gimicky bottles of Mezcal so drunk US college kids can claim they "ate the worm".

Personally, I wouldn't touch cheap Mezcal or a worm with a 10' pole!

And you can't really get drunk just from eating the larva; think about it. It's pretty small, and even if it's completely soaked up in alcohol, that's less than a tablespoon of liquor. If you get nasty after-affects from it, it probably has more to do with the fact that you ate a bug.

No, Try Rattle Snake Tequila< I had some in Mexico last year, the snake is in the Bottle

No the worm in alcohol isn't poisonous. If it were do you think they would put it in the bottle? After the bottle is empty, most people like to eat the worm, it absorbs alot of alcohol throughout its time inside the bottle. One other thing worms are not found in tequila, if you do find one with a worm in it, it is fake and cheap. The kind with the worm in it is called "mezcal con gusano."

I don't think its poisonous, I just think it absorbs alot of the liquor and it is said to contain halucenagens....

Hell no....lol i heard thats the best part...lol serious

'Con Gusano,' With worm. No its a delicacy in some restaurants they are actually larva of a moth. I guess it could absorb some of the tequila, but its purpose is it changes the taste of the tequila slightly.

A mexican friend explained it best: he said that the worm is at the bottom.. You have to drink the whooole bottle of tequila to get to the worm. That is why people think it is "poisonous". Its not, youre just wasted.

no and there is no side effects after eating it

Just a correction that other did not recognize, it is not tequila that has the worm it is a beverage known as Mezcal, a similar but slightly different concoction than tequila, I drank for years and in Mexico, you can order it as a shot with a worm in the shot glass.

There's no worm in Tequila. Never.
You're talking about Mezcal.
