I really like Guinness, although I have been to Ireland twice and its much better there (toured the brewery as well).
No, 40's arent all that terribly popular. It kind of depends on the situation. When I was in college, I was drinking the cheapest beer possible. Natural Light, Milwaukee's Best (Beast), MGD, Icehouse, Goeble. When I got out of college and started to make decent money with my job, I moved on up to beer that actually tastes good- Sam Adams, Blue Moon, Hoegaarden, Honey Brown, Guinness, Sierra Nevada, stuff like that with more taste. And I stopped drinking anything that came out of a can, otherwise, it just tastes like a nasty old can.

Most guys I know drink anything with alcohol content, but Budweiser and Miller seem to be big. Same with Corona.

If you're not old enough to spell, you're not old enough to drink.

budwiser round here in tha south

Guinness is strong, and has a "coffee" taste to it, to answer your question. All types of people drink Guinness.

As for 40s, it just depends upon the person. I personally like them, I like a big Heineken 40oz when I'm hanging out with friends--its a lot easier than having to get up and down a million times to get another beer.

Bud and MGD are the most popular. Or you could try Heineken for a different taste. Guinness is really dark and has a syrup like consistency. Alaskan Amber is great if you can get it. Beer is very personal so just try some and see which you like best and never-mind what other people are drinking.

If they are the frat-boy drink anything type, Budweiser or MGD should suffice, hell even something much cheaper like Pabst Blue Ribbon or High Life will get the job done.

If they are the type of guy who really likes a good beer, I would suggest Guinness over all else. Most people don't like it, but that's because they are stupid. Guinness, despite it's relatively low APV, is a beer drinkers beer. It's a man's beer, good enough to drink all night. Good enough to cure a hangover and still taste great going down. Guinness is life, Guinness is everything and more. If Guinness were a woman I would have sex with the bottle. Okay, maybe I'm going a little too far, but Guinness is amazing.

Go for Guinness, unless they are college amateurs, and then just stick with something generic like Budweiser.

Sadly Bud Light is the most popular beer among males 21-30... It is a poor example of beer and give true beer a bad name. Guinness is an entry level beer into the world of true brews. It has a dark roasted maltiness to the flavor with hints of bitter chocolates. I stress the hints part. It is moderately carbonated and usually best served on draft or out of the 16oz cans with the widget inside to mimic the nitrogen injections of the draft. I myself prefer Guinness Extra Drought to the standard. It kicks up the flavors a notch and isn't a starter beer.
