Can anyone recommend a good quality Austrian white wine.?!

Question: Austrian wines are of very high quality. They are mostly white and dry and the major grape there is a wonderful one that may very well be the 'next big thing' called Gruner Veltliner -- often known as Groovy, an dthey also make excellent Riesling.

There are some ignorant people here who allude to a problem more than 30 years ago in which not one person was harmed, when a technically illegal ingredient was found in some wines. I repeat, that was more than 30 years ago and not one person was harmed -- unlike some more recent cases of adluteration of Italian wines where people were killed.

Muskattle (sorry spelling is wrong)

pronounced:

MUS - KA - TELL

I thought you said Australian, D'oh!
I was gonna say Yellowtail Reisling.

McGuigans available at Tesco

Austrian or Australian?

I can't say that I've really had a Austrian wine, not that I remember, so it couldn't have been that important. They usually use Grüner Veltliner as their grape - I know very little about this as it's not a common grape.

Here's the wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_wi... perhaps it will help you to locate one.

Added: Muscat is somtimes used in Austrian Dessert Wines, but it's not incredibly common.

Watch out for anti freeze. They used it to fortify their wine back in the 70's.

Austrian wines -cheap and tasteless - right way to the cemetery - glycol-ethanol to chaptalize - Remember the casualties

I said remember the casualties - better to be called ignorant than being a crook -
