A hangover is predominantly caused by a loss of vitamins as a result of over indulging. Vermouth I suppose could cause a drop in a vitamin he is extra sensitive to. I always take a double dose of multi-vitamins and aspirin, a blood thinner before bed that night to head off the hangover. This works most of the time.
It could be an allergy to some ingredient in Vermouth as pointed out by rjaym73.
You can get a hangover from any alcoholic beverage.
it is posible, there might be something in it that bothers him, after all it is wine that is flavored with wormwood, wine is worse to give people headaches and who knows, there may be something in the wormwood that bothers him.
