Husband Birthday Champagne?!

Question:

Husband Birthday Champagne?

What is a good champagne to buy for my hubby's bday? We both enjoy wine. I would like to hear from the men what do you prefer to drink and cost?

If you want a champagne that is good, but moderately priced, try Moet & Chandon White Star. It's really good and shouldn't break the bank like a bottle of Dom Perignon.

Veuve Cliquot is a very nice champagne. Its about $35-40 depending where you live. My champagne of choice when I need a bottle!

It depends on how much you want to spend. Cordon Rouge is very good.

Veuve Cliquot is also excellent

These two Champs are every bit as good as Cristal or Dom Perignon but about half the price (these champagnes are way over touted by the Rap Gangsta bunch, who would not know good wine if it hit them over the head but only think the wines are good because they are pricey).

Moet is good too.

If you want something good but less expensive you can try Schramsberg (US method Champagne)

I'd urge you NOT to go with a Non-vintage Veuve or Moet, as recommended here. Not for a special occasion. They are overpriced for what you get. You can spend less money on a Schramsberg VINTAGE bubbly and get something better. THe ONLY NV french champagne I'd buy would be Duval Leroy.

You didn't list a price range, so it's harder to make a recommendation, but I can tell you what I'd go with

Any Vintage (with a year) Moet, Veuve Cliquot, or Taittinger. We (my husband and I) prefer Rose to Blanc, but that's our personal preference. These will all run you $50-$80.

For under $35, vintage Schramsbergs can't be beat. We prefer the Blanc de Noirs and the Brut Rose, but the Blanc de Blanc is also wonderful. A nice Argyle is also doable.

When you step up to luxury bubblies, my first choice would be J Schram. It regularly beats out Dom, Le Grande Dame, and Cristal is tastings. This is our first choice for special occasion wines. Their Reserve is nice as well, it's a little sweeter and fruitier, and also top notch.

Hope this helps!
