Individual reactions to alcohol vary, and are influenced by many factors, including but not limited to

* Age.
* Gender.
* Race or ethnicity.
* Physical condition (weight, fitness level, etc).
* Amount of food consumed before drinking.
* How quickly the alcohol was consumed.
* Use of drugs or prescription medicines.
* Family history of alcohol problems.

Levels of alcohol dehydrogenase vary from one person to another. The more of it you have, the quicker alcohol is oxidized to acetaldehyde. After that, the levels of aldehyde dehydrogenase decide whether the person will have a bad hangover (low levels of enzyme) or recover quickly or not have a hangover at all (high levels of enzyme). Having high levels of the first enzyme and low levels of the second is the worst combination to have because it leads to an acetaldehyde buildup in the blood. Alcohol causes intoxication but acetaldehyde causes nausea and hangover symptoms.

Someone with low levels of alcohol dehydrogenase (you) will actually be more tolerant of methanol and antifreeze poisoning. Women in general have lower amounts of this enzyme, and get intoxicated more easily (all other things, like body weight, being equal).

Unlike the first answer...The easier answer is that alcohol affect people according to SIZE, TOLERANCE and wheater you have eaten or not.
Empty stomach on a 100 lbs female..will get you drunk in a heart beat. Big heavy set guys takes a min. of four drinks before they can feel it

If you are in good physical health, you will get drunk faster but you will also sober up faster.

Also, if you're a noob at drinking you will get drunk before you notice it. Don't try to pound 'em down like the pros!
