Whoever told you that.... first needs to grow up, then needs to be told to quit telling false stories! If plastic bottles would flake upon reuse they wouldn't sell them, would they? I could see this happening to styrofoam containers but not plastic water bottles.

Rumours like that are started by bottled water companies to scare you into buying more of their product. The REAL harm in water bottles is the people who DON'T reuse or recycle them! It's estimated that by 2015 HALF of landfill space on North America alone will be taken up by plastic bottles people were too careless to recycle. You are doing a GOOD thing for the Earth by reusing and a good thing for your body by drinking lots of water!

This is not true.

I have heard the same thing! I use to re-use water bottles but someone told me that you could get cancer from that. Why chance it?

Sounds like a load of crap to me but if you're going to be reusing a water bottle you might as well invest in something sturdy like the obligatory Nalgene bottle. Nalgene also makes many plastic products for lab use so I can nearly guarantee you that they are indeed built to last under even harsh conditions.

None that I have seen

Somehow is true...but the manufacturing standards for the USA are more strict than other countries...You can safely fill up your plastic bottle again and reuse it. I do suggest to rise it with hot water once in while to sterilized it

I reuse my plastic water bottles all the time. Trying to do my part, to save the earth. Once a week I run them in the dishwasher. After about a month I recycle them.

This is fear mongering by the media. Much like the fear of bird flu (you can't get it from human contact... you pretty much have to live in bird poop to get it) and Razorblades/poisoned candy at Halloween time (There has never been a case of razorblades in apples and the only poisoned candy case on file was a father that did it to his own kids for the money).

the bottles would never pass FDA laws
MORE nonsense..
As a matter of fact the legislatures are considering BANNING them because they seem to last forever messing up the land fills..

The only thing bad about it is the bacteria that grows in the bottle when you keep filling it up. No cancer.

I heard the same thing . you never know, every thing seems to give you cancer these days though !
