Depending on where you live this will no longer work. In WA state, our cards cannot be slit open to scratch out a number, they are solid plastic. And when you go to a club's alcohol 21+ only section, they scan your card through a machine after checking the date, just to make sure you really are 21 in the event that the ID has been altered.

Yeah thats only slightly illegal. Tends to come with free bracelets and a paid vaccation to your local county jail for up to two years (give or take depending where you're at).
Imo, if you're under age and must drink find yourself someone who is of age. Its much less riskier.
My bro did that a long time ago. It's really tough to do, and you need quite a bit of practice to do it right. Even if you are good at it, I wouldn't recommend it at all. Much easier to just find someone that looks remotely like you that is of age and ask them for their old ID or something. It's still not failsafe, but much better than scratching...
