How many kegs for a 75-person event? How much do kegs cost?!

Question: I figure these people are relatively hard drinkers, so figure 6 beers per person. How many full kegs do I need?

And how much does a light beer keg cost (bud light) v. premium beer like sam adams?

A standard American 1/2 barrel keg (the one everyone is most familiar with) is 15.5 gallons, or 1984 ounces.
If you're pouring 16 oz beers (15oz w/ 1 oz head), a 1/2 bbl yields 132 beers.
Figure 6 beers per guest at 75 guests, that's 450 beers, or 6750 oz.
I would say 4 kegs to be on the safe side, that's assuming that everyone is drinking beer, and they'll avg 6 beers each.
As far as pricing, it differs by state.
In Michigan, which is pretty close to national avg, 1/2 bbl of Sam Adams Lager usually retail for $120. It would be close to the same for most micros and imports, except Guinness which is more like $150.
Miller Lite, Bud, Labatt, Coors are around $85.
Something like PBR or High Life is about $70.
Keep in mind you'll also have to pay rental deposit for party pumps (tappers) and pay a deposit of $30 per keg.
That is unless you have a tapping system, such as home bar or coilbox dispenser.
Hope that was helpful.

Buy those Heineken mini-kegs, they're like $12 at any grocery store.

it could cost anywhere between 50 and a 100 bucks depending in what size keg you get. Also for a 75 person event you have to consider wil the guest want to get drunk or just drink socialy, so i would say anywhere between 10 and 12 kegs would be fine.

A 16 gallon keg has 2048 oz. 16 gallons X 128 oz per gallon
2048/12 =170
A 16 gallon keg will yield about 170 12 ounce glasses.
2 drinks a person will leave you with 30 glasses left.

I hope this helps.

Half Kegs in ohio are $80, and thats for the "good stuff" budlight, sam's, killians, labatt, etc.

half kegs in ohio are $60 and thats for your paps blue ribbon, nady ice, fosters,

I would get 2 or 3. Depends on the crowd and how bring on drinkers, and if everyone would drink. Also will there is liquor, shooters, girly drinks etc?

I know 20 people for the OSU game all heavy drinkers went through a whole half keg in 1 full day of drinking... so maybe that will help you decision.

Good luck P-A-R-T-Y!

Joe is the closest, but he didn't account for foam. You can lose about 15% of your beer because of improper pouring. So you don't have 170 you have closer to 150 and that would be two beers per person per keg assuming everyone uses 12oz glasses and not your standard 16oz ones. Also assuming that everyone is going to consume alcohol. Your best course of action would be to get at least 2 kegs. Go for three if you don't mind spending the extra money and having a little extra. Once tapped a keg will remain fresh for about 3 to 4 weeks so left overs aren't a problem. After that the beer is still consumable but will be flat.

Depending on where you live a budlight keg will run you $40 to $50 and Sam Adams (not really premium beer)will get you for $75 or so. Premium beer will run you $100 a keg on average. Mind you all prices are subject to local and state taxes and deposit fees that could cause them to vary as much as $20.
